Dance was never for me. I actively stayed away from it. I grew up a shy math nerd—solving math problems for fun, representing India at the International Math Olympiad. My best undergrad days at UC Berkeley were spent in the math library.

During my PhD at Stanford, I watched my friends dance freely, with joy. And I felt left out. So I made a promise to myself: do one dance-related activity every day. I pushed myself into every dance class and workshop I could find — yet traditional classes never clicked for me.

YouTube's algorithm knew what I wanted. It served me endless Electroswing dance clips. I was hooked by the light, playful style. And the best part - no need for a dance partner! I really really wanted to master Electroswing, but there were no instructors in a 100-mile radius. So I did the only thing I could — I studied the YouTube videos frame-by-frame, practicing alone in my room every day.

COVID closed down the dance spaces and pushed me to dance outside. But the shyness was already gone. Instead, passers-by stopped to watch me. I started putting my dance videos on YouTube. The Electroswing community welcomed me with open arms. In 2021, Electroswingthing.com listed me among the top 25 Electroswing dancers. And since then, I have been doing fantastic collaborations with singers and musicians every month.

It took me eight years to become good at dance — and it should not be this hard. Worldwide, there are around 200 million people who dance. However, less than 30% attend classes regularly. Dance instructors, not students, control the how, when, and what of learning dance. Dancers may or may not go to classes, but they do want more control over their learning experience. That's why over 80% of dancers try to learn from social media videos. But learning from videos is hard as well - you never know if what you are doing is correct. Learners are stuck between rigidity and guesswork.
At MoovMyWay, we want to give you the tools you need to learn dance on your own terms. We transform online dance videos into effective tutorials. Using just your phone or laptop camera, we provide instant scoring and step-by-step guidance.
